To address rising human-tiger conflicts outside tiger reserves, the Environment Ministry has approved a pilot scheme titled ‘Tigers Outside of Tiger Reserves’. The National CAMPA authority sanctioned funding for a one-year trial in 80 forest divisions across 10 states, targeting areas with frequent conflicts. The scheme includes enhanced monitoring, use of technology, vet support, and prey base improvement, to be executed by state wildlife wardens with NTCA collaboration. With nearly 30% of India's tigers outside reserves, conflicts have escalated. Between 2020–2024, 382 people were killed in tiger encounters. The project has a proposed outlay of ₹88 crore till 2026–27.
