Tripura is set to launch its first-ever elephant safari by August 15 to boost eco-tourism and promote human-elephant coexistence. Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma confirmed that preparations at Mungiakami Elephant Camp are nearly complete, including infrastructure upgrades and training of elephant watchers. The safari will initially be previewed by officials before opening to the public. As part of conflict mitigation, non-lethal double-barrel guns have been introduced to safely deter elephants in vulnerable areas. The initiative aims to address human-elephant conflict, particularly in Khowai district, while raising awareness about conservation and turning challenges into sustainable tourism opportunities.
