On Friday, Assam commissioned 100 new distribution substations to enhance power supply and reduce voltage fluctuations. An additional 96 substations under the AIIB-funded ₹3,000 crore System Enhancement Project are set for completion by December, with the full project ending by March 2026. Over 20,000 transformers, 12,000 km of HT lines, and 15,000 km of LT lines have been upgraded in three years. Power supply has improved, but major gaps remain. Officials estimate ₹30,000 crore is needed to fully revamp Assam’s power network. The current HT:LT line ratio of 1:3 causes high losses, with AT&C losses at 15.4% in March 2025.
