The East Khasi Hills Taxi Welfare Association (EKHTWA) has stated it will decide its stance on Meghalaya’s new safety rules for commercial vehicles after discussions with the government. The rules require displaying driver details to enhance passenger safety, particularly for women and solo travelers. EKHTWA president Wandonbok Jyrwa stressed the need for more traffic personnel and encouraged passengers to stay alert. He condemned criminal behavior by a few drivers and highlighted EKHTWA’s disciplinary actions. The rule, applying initially to four-wheeled commercial vehicles, allows a one-month compliance period and excludes private and government vehicles. Two-wheelers may be included later.
