Mizoram has launched a comprehensive digital platform called Mizo DiasporaHub, aimed at addressing the growing challenges faced by Mizo communities living abroad. This initiative focuses particularly on issues such as irregular migration and exploitation, which have become increasingly common as more Mizos seek opportunities overseas through unauthorized channels.
The platform was officially launched by Lalduhoma, marking a major step in the Mizoram government’s commitment to strengthening ties with its global diaspora. The Mizo DiasporaHub has been developed in collaboration between the Mizo Diaspora Cell, a special cell created in June 2024, and the tech company LushAITech. The Diaspora Cell was specifically established to monitor, support, and respond to difficulties faced by Mizos outside the country, especially those affected by illegal migration practices.
Vanlaldina Fanai, chairman of the Diaspora Cell, stressed that many Mizos fall victim to human trafficking and exploitation due to migration through unauthorized routes. Recognizing this growing problem, the state has taken a tech-driven approach by integrating diaspora support into its larger digital governance strategy.
Mizoram has been rolling out a series of digital initiatives in recent years as part of its broader digital transformation efforts. These include tools like Mipui Aw for public grievance redressal, e-Ram for land revenue management, e-OPD for digitized hospital services, Kai Apps for employee attendance tracking, and various other digital services aimed at improving administrative efficiency.
The Mizo DiasporaHub adds to this digital ecosystem by offering a platform where Mizo welfare associations across the globe can register and stay connected. The platform is designed to help diaspora members find relevant associations, locate meeting places, and access contact details of key representatives. It also includes AI-powered features such as automatic translation and emergency SOS alerts, which can be particularly helpful in crisis situations.
Although individual registration is not yet active, it is expected to open soon, thereby expanding the platform’s reach. The government envisions the DiasporaHub as a vital bridge for offering assistance to Mizos abroad, ensuring that no individual faces a crisis in isolation. It is also a way to maintain cultural and emotional connections among the global Mizo community.
Lalduhoma emphasized that this platform will allow the newly formed Diaspora Cell to better coordinate support efforts and monitor the needs of Mizos living abroad. It will also serve to enhance collaboration between different welfare associations across countries, allowing the diaspora to support one another more effectively.
Fanai also acknowledged the assistance from various state and national agencies in launching the initiative, including the Ministry of External Affairs, Home Department, CID & Crime Branch, and other relevant authorities.
The Mizo DiasporaHub is now available via Google Play Store, Apple App Store, and web versions, with current functionality supporting welfare association registration. Individual access and additional features will be rolled out in the coming weeks as part of the state’s continued effort to provide structured support and connectivity to Mizos worldwide.
