Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday inaugurated a modern, state-of-the-art super-speciality hospital at Ahom Gaon, near ISBT in Guwahati. This event marks a significant milestone in the development of Assam’s healthcare infrastructure. The hospital, established by one of Eastern India’s most reputed healthcare groups, began its operations with 100 beds and is projected to expand its capacity to 300 beds by 2026.

The facility is designed to offer advanced treatment across multiple key medical specialities, including cardiology, neurology, orthopaedics, oncology, nephrology, trauma care, and critical care. Equipped with the latest medical technology and supported by a highly trained team of doctors and medical staff, the hospital aims to serve patients not just from Assam but also from neighbouring regions such as Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura, North Bengal, and even Bangladesh. This is expected to reduce the need for patients to travel to metropolitan cities like Delhi, Mumbai, or Kolkata for serious medical treatments.

During the inauguration, Jayanta Roy, Managing Director of the hospital’s parent group, emphasized the group's commitment to providing ethical, patient-centric healthcare in Assam. He stated that the launch represents the extension of their 30-year legacy of healthcare excellence into the Northeast. According to Roy, Assam is fast becoming a model state in healthcare, and this hospital is a step forward in that evolution.

Founded in Kolkata in 1994, the hospital group has since treated over 1.2 crore patients across Eastern and Northeastern India. It conducts over 3.2 lakh surgeries every year and manages more than 2,000 critical care cases annually. The group has also been at the forefront of medical innovations, being a pioneer in areas such as robotic joint replacements and gene therapy. Additionally, it has taken part in over 40 international clinical trials, which showcases its global outlook and commitment to advanced healthcare research and development.

Further expanding its footprint in the region, the healthcare group is also establishing an international-standard Research and Solutions Centre in Nalkata, located in Tripura’s Dhalai district. This project is being undertaken in collaboration with Malaysia’s SD Guthrie International Company. Moreover, a second medical processing facility is being planned at Gurupada Bagan, further highlighting the group’s investment in regional healthcare development.

The inauguration of this hospital in Guwahati symbolizes Assam’s emergence as a regional hub for high-quality, affordable healthcare. It reflects both public and private sector commitment to improving medical services and making them more accessible to people in remote and underserved areas. The initiative is expected to not only improve local healthcare access but also boost medical tourism in the region. With improved infrastructure, cutting-edge technology, and a patient-first approach, the hospital is poised to become a vital healthcare destination in the Northeast.
