The ‘Each One Reach One’ mentorship programme, launched by the Guwahati regional office of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), has emerged as a transformative support system for over 2,000 students in Assam. Over the 2024–25 academic year, this initiative provided essential academic and emotional support to students across 42 Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) in the region. With 1,450 teachers voluntarily participating as mentors, 2,260 students—many of whom faced academic difficulties, emotional stress, and behavioural issues—were guided through sustained and structured mentorship.

The programme was initiated following feedback from student interactions with the Guwahati KVS regional office. These discussions revealed common stressors such as exam-related anxiety, pressure from home, and emotional isolation. Recognising the need for deeper intervention, the ‘Each One Reach One’ initiative was developed with the aim of bridging both academic and emotional gaps. Unlike traditional remedial education, the programme focuses on holistic student support. Teachers, school principals, and senior administrative officials volunteered to adopt students for a year-long mentorship journey.

Each mentor-mentee pair worked on addressing individual challenges. The programme particularly catered to students facing difficulties with literacy, STEM subjects, attention-related concerns, and emotional or behavioural struggles. Data collected during the first year revealed that 29.4% of the students needed help with literacy, 21.7% struggled in science and mathematics, 12.6% faced issues with attention, and 9.1% were dealing with emotional or behavioural problems.

The results were encouraging. Among mentored students were 183 from Class 10, who achieved an impressive 99.5% pass rate, and 285 from Class 12, who recorded a 98.6% success rate. These figures underscore the programme’s effectiveness in boosting academic performance while supporting emotional well-being.

Several success stories stand out. Keya, a hyperactive Balvatika-3 child from KV AFS Jorhat, overcame her writing and attention challenges through dedicated mentorship. Shristi, a KV Guwahati student, improved significantly in Mathematics and Science after receiving both academic and emotional support to help her deal with family-related difficulties. Another mentee, Mofida from KV IIT Guwahati, benefitted from structured guidance on mindfulness, lifestyle, and nutrition to address her social anxiety and performance pressure.

The programme draws inspiration from the National Education Policy 2020, which advocates for inclusive and personalised education. With the initial success witnessed in Assam, other KVS regional offices have begun to pilot similar mentorship models based on Guwahati’s example.

‘Each One Reach One’ is now being recognised as a replicable and scalable framework that can be adapted nationwide. It not only aims to improve academic results but also fosters a nurturing and inclusive environment where students feel heard, supported, and motivated. As it moves into its second year, the programme is expected to expand its reach, deepen its impact, and continue providing much-needed support to students navigating the increasingly complex academic and emotional demands of modern education.
