Assamese actress Nandini Kashyap is at the center of a major controversy following her alleged involvement in a serious hit-and-run case in Guwahati. The incident occurred around midnight between Friday and Saturday in the Dakhingaon area, when Kashyap, reportedly driving a vehicle at over 120 km/h, allegedly hit a young man, Samiul Haque, a Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) employee. Samiul was part of a team working on streetlight repairs at the time of the accident.
Eyewitnesses claim that after hitting Samiul, Kashyap fled the scene without stopping to offer any help. Fellow GMC employees, who witnessed the incident, chased her vehicle and eventually traced it to an apartment complex in Kahilipara. When confronted, Kashyap allegedly became aggressive and even assaulted a bystander who was attempting to film the incident. Attempts were reportedly made to hide the car in order to avoid police detection.
The victim, Samiul, sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash. He has suffered significant head trauma, multiple fractures in both legs, and broken bones in his thigh and arm. He is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). Due to the severity of his condition, doctors have recommended that he be shifted to a specialized facility in Patna for further treatment.
In a disturbing revelation, Samiul’s family has accused Nandini Kashyap of initially assuring them that she would bear the cost of the medical treatment. However, they allege that she later withdrew her support and declared that she would no longer be responsible for any expenses. The family has also stated that Kashyap has not once inquired about Samiul’s condition or offered assistance since the night of the incident.
Following the public outcry, Dispur Police have summoned Nandini Kashyap to appear at the police station on Monday, July 28, for questioning. Despite the serious nature of the allegations, no formal arrest has been made yet. Guwahati Police, however, have launched an investigation and stated that appropriate legal action will be taken if the charges are proven.
The incident has triggered massive outrage across social media platforms. Netizens have expressed deep concern over the apparent misuse of celebrity status to evade accountability. There is widespread criticism of Kashyap’s behavior, both during the incident and in its aftermath. Many users are calling for swift legal proceedings and justice for Samiul Haque.
Nandini Kashyap, who recently gained popularity for her role in the Assamese film Rudra, is now facing significant public and media scrutiny. The case has reignited debates over privilege, responsibility, and accountability, especially when it involves public figures.
As the investigation continues, Samiul’s family is demanding justice and urging the authorities to take strict action against negligence and the abuse of social privilege. They emphasize that the lives of ordinary workers like Samiul should not be put at risk by reckless actions, regardless of the individual’s fame or status. The case remains under active investigation, with more developments expected in the coming days.
