The Manipur Forest Department has taken a significant step to protect the Langol Reserve Forest by issuing a complete ban on all recreational activities, including camping, trekking, and expeditions, particularly in the Punshilok area. This decisive action, prompted by the alarming rise in illegal trespassing incidents, reflects the department’s growing concern over ecological degradation and threats to wildlife conservation.

The order was officially issued on July 29 by Divisional Forest Officer Vikram Suresh Nadhe of the Central Forest Division in Imphal. It highlights that illegal human activities—especially in the form of unauthorized camping and expeditions—have been on the rise, particularly in ecologically sensitive parts of the Langol Reserve Forest. The Punshilok area has emerged as a hotspot for such violations.

According to the order, these intrusions are causing significant disruptions to the forest's ecological balance. The forest department has specifically cited violations of the Indian Forest Act, 1927, and other relevant forest protection regulations. It warned that unauthorized activities not only endanger the rich biodiversity of the region but also undermine existing laws aimed at forest conservation and wildlife safety.

In response to these challenges, the forest department has imposed strict restrictions. All forms of recreational access to the Langol Reserve Forest—whether for leisure or adventure—have been "strictly prohibited until further order." This includes camping, trekking, nature expeditions, and similar activities. The ban takes effect immediately and will remain in place until the department issues further instructions.

To enforce this order, range officers and forest department staff have been directed to intensify surveillance and maintain heightened vigilance across the forest area. They have been given the authority to take appropriate legal action against violators, in line with provisions under the Indian Forest Act, 1927 and the Manipur Forest Rules, 2021.

The order serves as a clear warning to the public: any person or group found violating the ban may face legal consequences, including imprisonment for up to six months, fines, or both. These penalties underline the seriousness of the government's intent to preserve the forest ecosystem and deter future violations.

Additionally, the department emphasized that individuals, groups, or organizations interested in conducting any activity in the reserved forest must seek prior approval from the competent authorities. This requirement ensures that only regulated and ecologically safe activities are allowed within protected forest zones.

Overall, the ban reflects the Manipur Forest Department’s proactive approach to conserving one of the state's most vital green spaces. By curbing illegal entries and promoting responsible forest use, the department aims to safeguard the Langol Reserve Forest’s ecological integrity for future generations. The move also sets a precedent for how forest departments across the country can respond decisively to environmental threats through legal and administrative means.
