Medical Dialogues, in partnership with the National Medical Forum, honored Dr. Gayatri Gogoi, Associate Professor at Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) and Adjunct Researcher at the ICMR-Regional Medical Research Centre, North East, with the prestigious Blackbuck Pioneer Researcher Award 2025. The award ceremony took place in Delhi during the Research Summit, attended by prominent medical leaders including Dr. Abhijat Seth, Chairperson of the National Medical Commission, and Prof. Ashok Puranik, Executive Director of AIIMS Guwahati. The jury panel responsible for selecting awardees consisted of eminent personalities such as the former Director General of ICMR, the Dean of Maulana Azad Medical College, the Head of Cardiology at PGI Chandigarh, along with leading doctors from across India.
Dr. Gogoi’s recognition stems from her groundbreaking work and significant contributions to cancer research. She has received numerous national awards not only for her research excellence but also for her dedication to supporting cancer patients and their families. Her international acclaim includes a highly regarded award for Excellence in Cancer Care from North Carolina, USA.
Her scholarly output is impressive, comprising medical textbooks, more than 50 research publications in peer-reviewed journals, and contributions to book chapters. Dr. Gogoi is also an active member of leading global organizations such as the American Association for Cancer Research and serves as an International Fellow of the College of American Pathologists. Additionally, she is the Chairperson of the Genomic Consortium of North East India, highlighting her leadership in regional and international cancer research initiatives.
Dr. Gogoi and her research team have successfully completed eight research projects, with five more currently underway. These projects involve collaboration with prestigious institutions including the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore, AIIMS Delhi, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, Tezpur University, and ICMR North East. Her role in fostering collaboration across these institutions underscores her commitment to advancing cancer research and healthcare in the region.
Besides her research accomplishments, Dr. Gogoi is deeply engaged in community health. As an honorary member of the Pratishruti Cancer and Palliative Trust, she has designed and implemented numerous community-oriented cancer care projects, which continue to operate successfully and provide vital support to affected populations.
Dr. Gayatri Gogoi stands out as the only awardee from North East India to receive the Blackbuck Pioneer Medical Researcher Award in 2025. She shares this honor with distinguished doctors and scientists from top-tier institutions such as AIIMS Delhi, ICMR, Apollo Hospitals, and Medanta, reflecting her exceptional status in India’s medical research landscape.
