On Independence Day, Chief Minister Manik Saha addressed the people of Tripura at the Assam Rifles ground, highlighting the state’s achievements in safety, social welfare, and governance. His speech emphasized Tripura’s steady progress in building a secure, welfare-oriented, and development-driven society.

Saha shared official data underscoring Tripura’s status as one of India’s safest states, with crime rates significantly lower than the national average. Among 28 states, Tripura ranks third from the bottom, registering only 110 criminal cases per lakh population compared to the national average of 422. In crimes against women, the state also performed better, ranking eighth from the bottom with 37 cases per lakh women against the national average of 66.

The Chief Minister pointed out remarkable improvements in crime reduction. In 2024, Tripura recorded a 19.4% drop in overall crime rates compared to the previous year. Furthermore, in the first five months of 2025, the trend continued with a 12.35% additional decline. To strengthen women’s safety, the government has set up 24×7 women’s help desks at every police station and established dedicated women’s police stations in each district. In 2024 alone, the state police conducted 9,735 outreach programmes under the “Prayas” initiative, directly engaging over two lakh citizens.

On drug control, Saha reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy. This firm approach yielded strong results, with narcotics seizures increasing by 106% and registered cases rising by 132%. These achievements were supported by enhanced border surveillance in collaboration with the Border Security Force (BSF). Simultaneously, Tripura Police have also intensified actions against cybercrime by freezing offenders’ bank accounts and closely monitoring online activities to curb fraudulent and illegal operations.

In the social welfare sector, Saha announced the introduction of the Tripura State Policy for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities in 2024. This policy ensures job reservations, infrastructure development, and broader support for people with disabilities, marking a significant step towards inclusivity. Additionally, under the PM Janman Project, 88 new Anganwadi centres have been set up in tribal regions to improve childcare and nutrition. The government has also continued to operate the 1098 Childline for children in distress and implemented the Sponsorship & Foster Care Scheme, which disbursed Rs 10.08 crore in financial support to 3,907 children.

For broader welfare, the state allocated Rs 826 crore for social security pensions, benefiting 3.9 lakh citizens across Tripura. To support working women, ten new hostels are being constructed at a cost of Rs 114 crore, ensuring safe accommodation and empowerment.

Highlighting economic progress, Saha credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat for Tripura’s growth trajectory. He reported a 12.46% rise in the state’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), an improved performance in NITI Aayog’s rankings, and significant advances in crime control, women’s safety, and drug eradication. Beyond governance and security, the state has witnessed record agricultural output, fresh industrial investments, and major improvements in infrastructure, including roadways, railways, and power supply systems.

In conclusion, the Chief Minister acknowledged the collective role of the state government, police, security forces, and the people of Tripura in achieving these milestones. He expressed confidence that with continued collaboration, Tripura would progress further in ensuring safety, welfare, and sustainable development for all its citizens.
