Manipur: Students' Union Hosts Inaugural Indigenous Games Meet to Celebrate Cultural Heritage

The Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) organized the Indigenous Games Meet 2025 under the theme "Know Your Identity; Know Your Indigenous Game." The event aimed to revive and promote the rich heritage of indigenous sports deeply embedded in Manipur’s culture and mythology.

Inaugurating the event, MUSU president Nongthombam Suraj Singh expressed pride in hosting the university’s first-ever indigenous games meet. "This is the first time we are organizing such an event. These games hold historical and mythological significance, closely linked to our culture and society," he said.

Emphasizing its importance, Suraj added, "Now is the right time to celebrate and reconnect with our indigenous games. We hope to make this an annual tradition."

The meet witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty, who engaged in traditional sports that once played a vital role in the region’s communal life.

By reviving these age-old games, the event serves as a powerful reminder of Manipur’s cultural heritage and underscores the need to preserve indigenous knowledge through sport.
