The Office of the Commissioner of Police in Dimapur, Nagaland, has issued a traffic advisory regarding a temporary closure of a key segment of National Highway-36. This move is part of an effort to ensure the durability and longevity of a newly constructed concrete pavement. The affected section, stretching from Km 165.600 to Km 165.925, is situated below the flyover near the Dimapur Railway Siding, spanning from the Blue Hill Police Assistant Booth (PAB) to the Flyover Y-Junction exit.

According to the advisory, this portion of NH-36 will remain closed to all vehicular traffic until May 15, 2025. The closure includes two types of concrete surfaces: Dry Lean Concrete (DLC) and Pavement Quality Concrete (PQC). The restriction has been put in place to allow sufficient time for the proper curing of the concrete, which is a critical phase in ensuring the structural integrity and strength of the road.

Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) will be permitted to resume travel along the stretch beginning May 16, 2025. However, the movement of Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) will continue to be restricted until the curing process is fully completed and it is deemed safe for heavier traffic. This staggered reopening aims to reduce pressure on the newly laid surface and prevent potential damage during its vulnerable curing phase.

The directive was issued following a recommendation from the Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD), National Highway Division, Kohima. The decision underscores the importance of proper maintenance practices during road construction and highlights the government’s commitment to infrastructure sustainability and public safety.

Authorities have called for public cooperation and understanding, emphasizing that the temporary inconvenience will result in long-term benefits. By strictly adhering to these restrictions, the durability of the road can be ensured, minimizing future repair needs and enhancing driving safety for all road users.

The advisory serves as a reminder of the technical requirements of road construction and the critical need for compliance with engineering standards during post-construction phases. Proper curing of concrete is essential not only for the surface strength but also for resisting environmental and vehicular stresses over time. The Dimapur Police and PWD officials are working in coordination to manage the closure efficiently and minimize disruptions to commuters.

Public awareness is also a key component of this advisory. Citizens have been urged to plan alternate routes and avoid the restricted area until further notice. Updates regarding the progress of the curing process and reopening for HMVs are expected to be communicated in due course.

Overall, this traffic advisory reflects a proactive measure by the authorities to enhance infrastructure quality while maintaining public safety standards. The successful execution of this plan depends largely on public support and compliance with the issued guidelines.
