Kelulu Dawhuo, a 19-year-old model from Nagaland’s Chakhesang tribe, was crowned Miss Universe Nagaland 2025 during a glittering ceremony held at the RCEMPA in Jotsoma, near Kohima, on the evening of June 10. The event, filled with glamour, cultural pride, and competitive spirit, was organized by the Beauty and Aesthetic Society of Nagaland (BASN), drawing a large and enthusiastic audience.
Dawhuo, who is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts at St. Joseph’s College, Jakhama, captivated both the judges and spectators with her grace, intellect, and confidence. She stood out among 14 contestants and ultimately claimed the coveted title, marking a significant milestone in her pageantry journey.
Before this major achievement, Kelulu had already made a mark in the regional pageant circuit. She was crowned Miss Kohima 2024 and also finished as the second runner-up in Miss Nagaland 2024. Her consistent performance, experience, and growth on stage clearly contributed to her win at Miss Universe Nagaland 2025. With this new title, she is now set to represent Nagaland at the Miss Universe India pageant, which is expected to be held later this year.
The competition featured 14 talented finalists, all of whom showcased their unique personalities and talents. The first runner-up position was awarded to Anon Konyak A, the reigning Miss Nagaland 2024, while the second runner-up title was claimed by Teilih Konyak, a newcomer who impressed the judges with her debut performance.
The judging panel brought prestige and national relevance to the event. It included Rhea Singha, the current Miss Universe India 2024, and Amjad Khan, the Director of Franchise Operations for Miss Universe India. Their presence added both credibility and excitement to the pageant, helping to elevate it as a platform for serious national contenders.
The glamour of the night was further enhanced by the presence of Ruopfuzano Whiso, the outgoing Miss Universe Nagaland 2024. Whiso had notably placed fourth at the Miss Universe India 2024 competition, setting a high benchmark for future participants. Her special appearance served as an inspiration for the contestants, as well as a symbolic passing of the torch to the new winner.
This edition of Miss Universe Nagaland was not just a celebration of beauty but also an affirmation of identity, talent, and empowerment for young Naga women. The event emphasized cultural representation, poise, education, and ambition—all of which were strongly embodied by Kelulu Dawhuo.
As Kelulu prepares for the national stage, her victory is being celebrated widely across Nagaland. Her journey from local pageants to becoming a national contender is being seen as a beacon of inspiration for aspiring young women in the region. With strong backing from BASN and growing public support, all eyes are now on how she will perform at the upcoming Miss Universe India 2025 pageant.
