On June 18, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma inaugurated a newly constructed two-storey building of Dalu Government Higher Secondary School in West Garo Hills district. This development falls under the state’s “Mission Education Phase I,” a key initiative aimed at enhancing educational infrastructure across Meghalaya. The move is part of a broader effort by the state government to create a more robust and supportive environment for students, teachers, and educational institutions.

During the inauguration, CM Sangma emphasized the importance of holistic development in shaping the future of Meghalaya's youth. He underlined the government's multi-pronged focus on areas such as education, sports, music, and entrepreneurship, which he believes are critical pillars for youth empowerment and state development. According to the Chief Minister, these sectors are interlinked and together form the foundation of a prosperous and capable young population.

Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) account, the Chief Minister expressed pride in the government’s achievements over the past few years in revamping and upgrading educational facilities. He noted that several new infrastructure projects for government schools and colleges have been undertaken or completed. A major milestone he mentioned was the establishment of the Captain Williamson Sangma State University—the first state university in Meghalaya. This reflects the government’s commitment to improving access to higher education within the state.

Chief Minister Sangma also shared that the state government has invested nearly ₹3,000 crore across key sectors such as education, sports, and entrepreneurship. This has been done through landmark initiatives like the CM Elevate and PRIME programs. These programs are designed to promote youth development by creating avenues for learning, professional growth, skill-building, and livelihood generation.

In addition to inaugurating the school building, CM Sangma also launched the PRIME Hub at Baghmara on the same day. PRIME Hubs have emerged as important community centers that support local entrepreneurs, self-help groups (SHGs), and farmers. These hubs aim to facilitate income-generating activities and contribute to local economic development. The Prime Hubs are equipped with the resources, training, and guidance necessary for individuals and small groups to enhance their economic prospects. By providing this support, the state government is encouraging grassroots entrepreneurship and self-reliance.

CM Sangma emphasized that all these efforts represent a broader vision for inclusive and sustainable development in Meghalaya. By investing in infrastructure, people, and systems, the government aims to empower the youth, create job opportunities, and ensure long-term social and economic growth. His statement, “These ongoing efforts reflect our commitment to youth welfare and overall development of the state,” encapsulated the underlying goal behind these projects.

Overall, the June 18 inaugurations mark another step forward in Meghalaya’s journey toward becoming a state where youth have access to modern education, strong support systems for entrepreneurship, and an inclusive environment for holistic development. The strategic focus on education and livelihood is not only aimed at immediate improvements but also at laying the groundwork for long-term prosperity.
