The Arunachal Pradesh government has officially reconstituted the State Women Commission, appointing Yalem Taga Burang as its new chairperson. This development was announced through a formal notification issued by the Department of Women and Child Development (WCD), marking the seventh formation of the commission since its inception. The reconstitution is being carried out in accordance with Section 5(1) of the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) Act of 2002, along with amendments made in 2005.

The newly restructured commission includes a fresh slate of leadership and members. Alongside Burang, who has taken the helm as chairperson, Tsering Dolma has been appointed as the vice-chairperson. Additional members of the commission include Kipa Kaya Rughu, Kotu Bui, Aben Mije, and Techi Nikhi Yab. The notification clearly stipulates that the roles, responsibilities, powers, and service conditions for these newly appointed individuals will be governed by the APSCW Act, the 2005 amendments, and the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (Service Conditions and Tenure of Chairperson and Members) Rules, 2004.

This reconstitution is seen as a crucial measure for reinforcing the framework designed to address women-centric issues in the state. The Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women plays an essential role in advocating for women’s rights, ensuring their safety, and supporting gender equality and empowerment. Through investigation, intervention, policy recommendation, and awareness campaigns, the commission serves as both a watchdog and an enabler in enhancing the status of women across the state.

Yalem Taga Burang’s appointment as chairperson has garnered widespread support and positive responses from various quarters, particularly women’s rights organizations and social welfare groups. She is known for her long-standing dedication to the welfare of women and her grassroots involvement in initiatives that uplift and empower marginalized women. Her leadership is expected to add renewed energy and vision to the commission’s work.

The commission's reconstitution also signifies a broader commitment by the state government to uphold and promote gender-sensitive governance. This includes the implementation of programs and schemes that directly impact the socio-economic and legal conditions of women in Arunachal Pradesh. It comes at a time when there is growing attention nationwide on gender justice, and Arunachal’s move is being seen as a timely and proactive measure.

The newly appointed members bring with them a diverse range of experience from social service, education, law, and public administration. Their collective expertise is expected to contribute meaningfully to shaping a more equitable environment for women in the state.

The revamped commission is anticipated to undertake focused efforts on issues such as domestic violence, access to education and healthcare, employment opportunities, and representation of women in decision-making roles. With a refreshed mandate and new leadership, the Arunachal Pradesh State Women Commission is set to play an instrumental role in shaping the future of gender equality and women’s development in the region.
