In a significant initiative to enhance the quality of education in government-run schools, the Tripura government has approved the recruitment of 1,615 new teachers to fill existing vacancies and meet the rising demand for qualified educators across the state. The announcement was made by State Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury during a media briefing following a cabinet meeting held on Tuesday.
According to the minister, the recruitment drive will include 915 post-graduate teachers who will be assigned to teach students of Classes 11 and 12. Additionally, 700 graduate teachers will be recruited for Classes 9 and 10. This large-scale hiring initiative is aimed at strengthening the academic infrastructure and improving teacher availability in secondary and higher secondary schools throughout the state, which have been facing a growing shortage of qualified teaching personnel.
Chowdhury emphasized the importance of this move in uplifting the education sector and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating a strong academic environment for students. “The cabinet has given the green light for filling up 915 post-graduate teaching posts and 700 graduate posts to strengthen our education system,” he stated.
The recruitment process for post-graduate teachers will be handled by the Teachers’ Recruitment Board of Tripura (TRBT), a statutory body responsible for teacher recruitment in the state. The TRBT will conduct the selection process, which is expected to include examinations and interviews in line with existing recruitment norms.
On the other hand, the recruitment of graduate teachers will be managed by the state’s secondary education department, following the department’s established recruitment procedures. This division of responsibilities ensures a streamlined hiring process while adhering to the state’s education and recruitment policies.
Apart from the recruitment of school teachers, the Tripura cabinet has also approved the appointment of 37 academic and administrative staff members at Tripura Law University. These include posts for professors, associate professors, and a deputy registrar. This decision reflects the state government’s broader focus on enhancing higher education institutions alongside school-level improvements.
The recruitment at the law university is expected to help boost academic excellence, enhance legal education, and support administrative efficiency. It is also seen as part of the government’s larger goal to attract more students to legal studies and improve the academic reputation of state-run higher education institutions.
Overall, the approval of 1,615 teacher recruitments and 37 university appointments marks a major policy move by the Tripura government to bridge gaps in the education sector. The decision comes at a time when there is growing concern over the quality of education and lack of adequate teaching staff in many parts of the state.
This comprehensive recruitment drive is expected to significantly reduce the student-teacher ratio, improve academic outcomes, and provide students with better guidance and learning support. It also opens up new employment opportunities for qualified candidates aspiring to join the teaching profession in Tripura.
Through these measures, the Tripura government aims to create a more robust, inclusive, and accessible educational system that supports both academic excellence and social development in the state.
