Over the past decade, Arunachal Pradesh has witnessed substantial economic growth, as announced by Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Tuesday. Highlighting this achievement on social media platform X, Khandu revealed that the state’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) surged by an impressive 166% between 2014 and 2024–25. He described this period as a “decade of transformative growth,” attributing the success to reform-oriented governance, disciplined fiscal management, and infrastructure-driven development under the “Pema 3.0” model.

Khandu emphasized that this long-term growth trajectory was not accidental but the result of strategic policy implementation and a consistent focus on enhancing governance and financial discipline. According to official data shared by the Chief Minister, multiple key economic indicators have shown remarkable improvement during this decade.

A notable example is the significant rise in Goods and Services Tax (GST) participation. Since the introduction of the GST regime in 2017–18, the number of registered taxpayers in Arunachal Pradesh has increased by 141%. This surge demonstrates a widening of the tax base and greater integration of businesses into the formal economy. In addition to this, the per capita income of the state's population has risen by 105% since 2016, reflecting improved individual economic well-being and stronger income levels among citizens.

The state’s own tax revenues have also seen substantial growth, most prominently through GST collections, which have jumped by a staggering 731% since the system’s rollout in 2017. This unprecedented increase points to not only effective tax administration but also a healthier and more active business environment within the state.

Internal revenue generation, categorized under the State’s Own Resources (SOR), has recorded a growth of 384% over the past ten years. This indicates the state’s increasing capability to generate funds independently, reducing its dependence on central assistance and showcasing its financial maturity.

In tandem with rising revenues, budgetary support to Arunachal Pradesh from the central government and internal allocations have also kept pace with the economic expansion. Between 2015–16 and the projected year 2025–26, state budget allocations have risen by 218%, with a strong focus on capital expenditures and inclusive development. This increase underlines the state’s commitment to building long-term infrastructure while ensuring that development benefits reach all sections of the population.

CM Khandu remarked that these economic indicators underscore Arunachal’s forward momentum and the success of governance reforms implemented over the years. He stressed that the combination of fiscal discipline, development-focused governance, and administrative efficiency has laid a strong foundation for sustained progress.

In summary, Arunachal Pradesh’s decade-long economic journey, marked by significant improvements in GSDP, tax revenue, per capita income, and internal resource generation, illustrates a model of effective governance and development. The data points to a future of continued economic vitality driven by smart policy choices and a people-centric approach.
